I’ve lived in Santa Monica/Los Angeles for 46 years this coming June.
When I started making photos again, well, like New York this city is it’s own genre. When I moved here in 1970 it was because my father was hired to run a new (and now defunct) progressive-rock radio station, KMET. I went to Hollywood High. When I first got here one of the big TV shows was Dragnet. The opening line of the show was Jack Webb it’s star and producer saying in voice over; “This is the city”, while a picture of City Hall filled the TV screen.
Right behind me when I was taking this photo is the Music Center and this wonderful child playing in the fountain.
A few blocks from there is the Walt Disney Concert Hall
I love some of the Los Angeles landmarks like the Griffith Observatory and the amazing view of the LA basin and downtown:
And the iconic Union Station built in the 1930’s:
And I couldn’t write about Los Angeles without this picture which has a special place in the hill top bunker behind me (as I shot the photo) as a tribute to a real war hero and fallen comrade of the police detail assigned to the sign:
It’s a wonderful city to live in and to call home.
