The Santa Monica Pier is a local icon, located in the Santa Monica Bay  in the city of Santa Monica.The pier contains Pacific Park, a family amusement park with its one-of-a-kind, state-of-the-art, solar paneled Ferris wheel. (This should not be confused with Pacific Ocean Park, a former amusement park a few miles south of Santa Monica Pier, which operated from 1958 to 1967 and is now demolished.)

At the beginning of the pier, where it’s marked as the physical end of the historic Route 66 is a the wonderful Pier Burger

I like to photograph in the wee hours so I can capture the energy and spirit of  a place without the throngs of people . This is the entrance to the park.

There is a trapeze school on the Pier. Yup, The Trapeze School New York or TSNY

Did I mention I LOVE to photograph storm clouds?

The underneath the Pier is full of surprises as well. I came upon these Lifeguard rescue boats;

I call them “The Guardians”.

This is a view of the very end of the Pier where you’ll find the Mariasol Cocina Restaurant, the Harbor Office, and Santa Monica Bait & Tackle

I have really only mentioned some of the highlights here. Truly, one could do a whole travellogue on the Pier and it’s many attractions, arcades, and restaurants. The best thing to do is just come on down and visit! You won’t waste your time.

til next time.
